Unlocking Happiness: The 9 Domains that Transform School Communities

Happiness is more than a feeling—it’s a state of well-being that encompasses various facets of life. In this keynote, we’ll explore the United Nations' 9 domains of happiness, offering a comprehensive framework for enhancing well-being in educational environments. From physical health to social connections and a sense of purpose, these domains provide a roadmap for creating happier, more fulfilling school communities.

Through the lens of these 9 domains, we will examine how schools can foster a culture of well-being for students, staff, and families. This session will present the foundational principles of happiness, connecting them to the unique challenges and opportunities within education, and offering insights into how schools can become thriving environments where everyone flourishes. Ideal for educators and school leaders, this keynote will leave you with a deeper understanding of how to integrate happiness into your school’s ethos.

G403: Workshop 2

Teacher Tom: Speak with children so they can think

In a very real sense, the language we use creates reality. Teacher Tom speaks about how the specific words we use, and how and when we use them, shape reality for our students for both good and bad.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of being clear and precise in language;

  1. honoring children without commanding or bossing them

  2. using words to create a world of facts and intrinsic motivation

  3. creating space in which children must do their own thinking and make their own decisions

  4. supporting children as they learn from the natural consequences of their behaviors.

As educators we are in the business of learning, knowledge, and intelligence, each of which is a key component of thinking. Yet how much do we actually think about the process of thinking, especially as it pertains to young children?

G404: Workshop 3.

Dr. Kim Manh Tuan: Teaching for Deeper Learning with AI

The “Teaching for Deeper Learning with AI Support” training program is tailored for K-12 teachers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI into classroom teaching. It also guides teachers in personalizing the learning experience for each student, ensuring that every child receives a learning approach suited to their abilities. In addition, teachers will learn to apply AI-supported assessment methods, allowing for accurate and timely monitoring of student progress and outcomes.

G402: Workshop 4

Mr. Martin Skelton: The missing evidence about learning

Evidence is an integral part of learning. Evidence is what helps us know whether learning has happened or not and, if not, why not. Evidence helps us decide whether to move on to a new struggle or stay a little longer with the existing struggle.

Not all evidence is helpful to learning, though. Some get in the way of learning by taking up too much time, by being unreliable or by being inadequate. In this workshop we’ll be looking at some evidence that is probably the most important evidence of all but which is absent in too many classrooms and schools. In the short time we have together, we’ll be looking at seven key questions that should be at the heart of school leader’s and teacher activity and reflection.
